On the 24th , four PSJA Memorial book readers attended the annual Battle of the Books Contest hosted by PSJA Southwest High School. The team took first place and were named Battle of the Books PSJA ISD High School Champions.

The students were tested on selected books.

“I was excited that we climbed to first, especially since we had a bad start. I’m glad that all the after-school practices really paid off,” said Jennifer Muñoz, senior.

They took notes on the books, The Hate U Give, Alex Approximately, The Sun is Also a Star, Warcross, and The Inexplicable Logic of my Life.

“I’ve never done this so this really was a new experience that really took a lot of dedication from my part. Now, I need to focus on what’s next which is regionals,” said John Guerrero, senior.

The team will advance to the Region One Battle of the Books Contest in February where they will proudly represent PSJA and compete against high schools from across the Rio Grande Valley.

“My favorite part about the competition was winning and with that note I’m excited to represent PSJA along with my team at regionals next month,” said Zorayda Sanchez, Junior.
