The wolverine aquatic sports team has been active since 2013 and has represented the wolverine country at the UIL region contest.

Since the team first made a splash in 2013, they have improved drastically breaking many school records with many of the returning juniors and sophomores taking the lead. Our freshmen have also made major improvements to fit in perfectly with the varsity team.

The current start is captain of the girl’s team, Gianna Salinas who has currently holds five school records and three in team relay.

“I’m surprised that I’m hitting those times so early in the season but I’m relieved to know that I’m where I need to be to do better at regional this year,” Gianna Salinas, said.

There are currently eight girls and six boys on the swim team. The small team is always looking for athletes to tryout and join them. The tryout test consist of a 25 yard swim test. Once that is passed, you will be put grouped according to your abilities.

The team meets at the aquatic center, on 1000 Fir Avenue in the city of Pharr.

The swimming and diving season may soon come to an end in February when they compete at the UIL Region contest next year, however water polo begins in March and runs through May.

“We have four weeks left before Tri-City and six weeks until district. I think it’s enough time get our Wolverines ready to compete and represent their school,” coach Pedro Saavedra, said.
